Radical Isn’t Extreme. It’s Rooted.

Radical candor.
Radical accountability.
Radical decisions.
The word radical is everywhere right now.
And most people think it means:
Bold. Extreme. Intense.
That’s one way to look at it—but there’s another perspective.
And I’d go as far as to say that’s not what “radical” actually means.
Radical means:
going to the root.
And that changes everything.
Because most people are trying to change their results by adjusting behavior.
They try to:
communicate better
work harder
be more confident
make better decisions
All at the surface.
But the surface is not where transformation happens.
The root is.
Your identity is the root.
It’s the lens you see through.
The standard you operate from.
The invisible script running your life.
And if the root doesn’t change—nothing else truly does.
You can practice radical candor…
but if your identity is still tied to approval, you’ll hold back.
You can make bold decisions…
but if your identity is rooted in fear, you’ll second guess them.
You can push yourself to perform…
but if your identity is tied to your role, you’ll eventually burn out trying to protect it.
This is why so many people feel stuck.
They’re trying to create radical results with surface-level changes.
Real change is quieter than that.
It’s not loud.
It’s not performative.
It’s not about doing more.
It’s about becoming different.
Because when identity shifts:
decisions become clearer
confidence becomes natural
behavior becomes consistent
Not because you’re trying harder…
But because you’re operating from a different place.
So if you’re looking for something radical,
don’t look for something extreme.
Look for what’s underneath.
Look for what’s been running the show.
Look for the root.
Because the most radical thing you can do
is not change what you do.
It’s change who you are being.
And from there…
everything else follows.
